Japanese Kotatsu Table with Quilt
"The Kotatsu looks like a coffee table, but is heated from underneath by an electrical element. The table top lifts out and is placed over a large padded quilt, so that family members can sit with their legs under the table to eat, talk, study, play games or watch television. The kotatsu is practical, space-saving and convivial; when not needed as an energy-saving source of heating during the summer, it can be used as an ordinary table or work-surace, or folded and stored.
A quilt were left over the kotatsu during the day, the spot became a good place to get warm. The family put their legs under the table, and while conversation waxed and waned, the toes stayed cozy. It is completed with thermostat or heater used and so the foot-warming kotatsu lives on to this day. "
